We will begin our season with two contrasting pieces:
Mozart's Missa Brevis in G in thought to be his first mass written at the age of twelve. It is a simple piece, but unmistakeably Mozartian!
Cherubini wrote his Requiem in C minor as a choral work composed without soloists in 1816 for a memorial to King Louis XVI and it was lauded by contemporaries like Beethoven and Berlioz for its formal mastery and expressive power. Known for its dramatic intensity, especially in the Dies Irae and the concluding Agnus Dei, the work balances solemnity with moments of triumph and uses a choir alone to convey both the text's sorrow and the grandeur of the Last Judgment.
